Dr. Edwin Moses
Non-Executive Chairman
After completing his post-doctoral research in Germany, Edwin Moses began a commercial career with successful periods spent at Amersham International, Enzymatix and Raggio-Italgene. From 1993-2001, first as CEO and later as Chairman, he was responsible for the growth of Oxford Asymmetry (OAI) through a series of venture rounds cumulating in a flotation (on the LSE) in 1998 at a value of €175m (£120m). This was followed by a sale of the company to Evotec Biosystems in 2000 for €460m (£316m). During this period, OAI grew from four people to over 250. Over the past five years, Edwin has played an important role at Board level (primarily as Chairman) in over 15 European life science companies. During this time he has been involved in financing rounds totalling €200m, a series of M&A transactions and three IPOs. Edwin has been Non-Executive Chairman of Phoqus Pharmaceuticals since 2004, and he is also the Chief Executive and Chairman of the Board of Ablynx, a biopharmaceutical company based in Belgium. He also continues to be actively involved at Board level in the following companies: Clinphone Group plc (UK), Biofusion plc (UK) and Pharmaceutical Profiles Ltd (UK).

Jerry Benjamin

General Partner of Advent Venture Partners. With a background in chemical engineering and biotechnology, Jerry spent the first 20 years of his career in Monsanto's healthcare and petrochemical businesses. Over the last 17 years he has successfully developed Advent's involvement in the healthcare and medical sectors, having supervised investments in over 30 private companies, many of which are now successful publicly-quoted businesses. He has been a Non-Executive Director of companies including Dura Pharmaceuticals, Inc, Oxford Glycosciences PLC, Orthofix International NV, Professional Staff PLC, Vernalis Group PLC and many other investee businesses.

Director of Abingworth Management Limited. David qualified as a chartered accountant in 1966 and stayed in the profession until joining the investment division of NM Rothschild & Sons in 1972. He became a Director of Rothschild Asset Management in 1978. He has specialised in investing in biotechnology companies in the UK and the US since 1981 when he was involved in setting up and managing Biotechnology Investments Limited, whose early stage venture portfolio included Amgen, Genzyme and Immunex. He joined Abingworth in 1987, and his directorships have included GeneMedicine, GenPharm International and Pharming.

Chairman of Vectura Ltd and Non-Executive Director of Bespak. Jack is the former Executive Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of RP Scherer Corporation, one of the world's largest drug delivery companies. He has had extensive experience of managing industrial and healthcare companies in Europe and North America over the last 30 years.

Tony founded acpharma Ltd, a consultancy company specialising in the development and implementation of strategy and business development (including mergers and acquisitions) in the healthcare industry. He provides services to major pharmaceutical companies, which includes a current role as Interim Managing Director of Labopharm Drug Delivery. Tony has also held senior positions in Aventis where, most recently, he was VP European Co-ordination, Commercial Operations. Previously, he held senior commercial positions in Hoechst Marion Roussel. Tony has over 36 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Non-Executive Director
Staph Bakali has been in the pharmaceutical industry for almost 20 years. He is the former COO of ID Biomedical and played a significant role in transforming the company from an R&D organization into a fully-integrated biotech company, doubling its market cap within two years. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of Shire Biologics by ID Biomedical ($120m), and led the efforts to integrate the newly acquired company. ID Biomedical itself was acquired by GlaxoSmithKline for $1.4bn in 2005. Staph gained considerable entrepreneurial experience in building and managing successful organisations in the vaccines industry through his previous positions at PowderJect, Chiron and SmithKline Beecham. Staph is also a director of Napo Pharmaceuticals, Inc, Intercell AG, Osisko Exploration Ltd and Lumiu Ltd.

Dr. Richard Mason, BSc, MBBS, MRCP, MBA
Chief Executive Officer
Richard joined Phoqus Pharmaceuticals as Director and CEO in May 2007. Prior to this, he was Senior Vice President, Business Development at Cambridge Antibody Technology plc (CAT). He led multiple transactions during his time at CAT, including the negotiation of CAT’s initial joint antibody discovery and development collaboration with AstraZeneca, which led to the subsequent acquisition of CAT by AstraZeneca for $1.3bn in 2006. Before joining CAT in 2001, Richard co-founded the e-health company, Cambridge Health Informatics Limited, having previously gained an MBA from the University of Cambridge. Richard graduated in Medicine from the Medical College of St. Bartholomew's Hospital and also holds a degree in Immunology from University College London. He is a qualified physician, and before entering the business world he worked for five years for the NHS in internal medicine.

Dr. Peter Johnson, PhD, FCA
Chief Financial Officer
Peter is a widely experienced senior executive and financial manager of high technology, engineering and healthcare-related organisations. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants having qualified with KPMG in 1985. He joined Vickers plc and was appointed Finance Director of the sales and marketing division of Vickers Medical in 1989 and gained experience over six years of international commercial operations, M&A and post acquisition integration. He gained considerable experience of change management in a turn-around role as Finance Director and deputy Chief Executive Officer at an NHS trust prior to joining National Air Traffic Services in 1996 as Finance Director to take it through to privatisation. In 2000 he joined Phoqus Pharmaceuticals as Chief Financial Officer transitioning the organisation from a venture capital backed start-up through its IPO and a listing on the London Stock Exchange AIM market. Peter initially graduated in physics from the University of Manchester, and subsequently went on to gain a Ph.D. in astrophysics. He is widely published in astronomy with almost 30 peer reviewed international academic publications.
